New Movement and Design of Hublot Spirit Of Big Bang Meca-10
Hublot has redesigned its acclaimed in-house caliber Meca-10 with a 10-day power reserve. The intention was to fuse the unique movement with the “barrel” design of the 45 mm case from the Spirit of Big Bang collection. The new Big Bang Meca-10 comes in three versions — black ceramic, titanium, and exclusive King Gold, complimented with the famous rubber strap. It is a well known fact that Hublot was the first brand to use gold and rubber in the design for the same model.
Innovations of Spirit Big Bang Meca-10
The new addition to 2020 lineup is a symbiosis of the iconic Spirit of Big Bang design and the Meca-10 caliber. The company, notable for its “art of fusion”, is venturing yet again with innovative materials, incorporating avant-garde into the traditional design to achieve the perfect harmony of style and mechanics. This is especially challenging as the in-house calibers are fully visible through the transparent dials.
A few minor adjustments had to be made to accommodate the round caliber HUB1201 Meca-10 in the barrel-shaped case of the watch. In traditional watchmaking, the shape of the movement and the case must match. The company’s engineers revised the entire movement to fit into the new available space with full efficiency and paramount aesthetic harmony.
The new caliber HUB1233 retains the basic principles of the in-house hand-wound Meca-10 movement, parallel twin barrels and a phenomenal 10-day power reserve with a unique display. At 12 o’clock position, the two posts slide along the line between the numbers 9 and 3 with an innovative new rack and pinion. The function at 3 o’clock shows the number of days remaining on power reserve.
Another innovative technical and aesthetic feature is showcased in the housing of Meca-10 movement: the usual round plate is replaced by jumpers with a fixed length on either side of the ring, which serve as the basis for the structure. This is an original structure that resembles perforated construction beams. The ingenious skeletonization of the components gives a captivating effect of depth, and draws attention to the mechanics on both sides of the watch — through the dial and the transparent case back.
Design
The design of the housing is unique thanks to the innovative ‘sandwich’ architecture that allows to vary an infinite array of materials. The new watch is available in three versions. The first watch 614.OX.1180.RX is made of royal gold of the king, an exclusive alloy of gold and platinum to achieve a reddish hue. Design of the dial is enhanced by alternating indentations on the dial, partial satin finishing and polishing.
The second version 614.CI.1170.RX is made of black ceramic, and the third version 614.NX.1170.RX is made of durable and lightweight titanium. Lined rubber strap with a buckle provides optimal durability and excellent wrist comfort. Six H-shaped screws on the bezel, lugs on both sides of the dial, easy-to-read hands, reinforced with a luminous composition, an impressive crown, the novelties maintain the original appearance of the famous model.
