Breguet is mainly known for their elegant classic dress watches, but they also have a long history creating instruments for sea exploration. In fact, in 1815, The French Royal Navy appointed Breguet as their official chronometer maker.
Today Breguet continue this history with their marine wristwatches. The latest generation of the Marine automatic reference 5517 was first introduced in Baselworld in 2018. This timepiece has been redesigned and features an all-new dial design, new bracelet and an all-new one-piece lug structure.
This model is available in 18KT white gold, 18KT rose gold and titanium. The case measurements are 40mm in diameter by 11.5 mm in thickness and it has a combination of brushed and polished finished which makes it look more up to date.
The new proprietary lug construction gives it a more contemporary design when compare to the last generation that still used welded lugs, but the case still carries the elegant touches that you expect from Breguet. These includes the famous fluted case band and Breguet’s screw-down crown with curved crown guards that have the look of a stylized propeller.
The dial is solid gold and it has a beautiful blue finish with an all-new hand engine turned wave motif. Over the dial are the Breguet faceted white gold hands with luminesce tips and the seconds hands feature an all-new counterweight design.
The roman numerals are now filled with strong superluminova as well as the markers on the outer ring. This is a significant improvement since now this timepiece is a lot more visible at night.
Last but not least, this new generation of the Marine Automatic now has a small date window by the 3 O’clock position.
The redesigned blue rubber strap has a sportier look than the previous and the loops are now rubber instead of metal. Breguet is also using an all new 18kt white gold deployment buckle with a half rudder design.
Under the hood is Breguet is using caliber 777A. This automatic movement works at 4 hertz using 26 jewels and gives you up to 55 hours of power reserve and 100 meters of water resistance.
