Hublot Big Bang Unico red Sapphire is a limited-edition timepiece that was first introduced in 2017. The architecture is the typical Big Bang Unico with a material that is highly scratch resistance and allows a complete view of the beating heart of this timepiece.
The entire case, bezel and backplate are made of polished synthetic red sapphire. This is a very labor-intensive process, since each piece is carved from sapphire blocks with a process called Electro Erosion. Even the typical black resin inserts have been replaced by smoke sapphire.
To add the finishing touch, Hublot paired this unique Big Bang with a smoked transparent silicone strap and black ceramic / black plated titanium deployment buckle.
The case is 45mm in DIA but 57.6mm when measure from lug to lug. The lugs carry the quick release system for the straps which allow the user to switch straps in seconds.
The skeletonized dial features a polished transparent resin where the numerals have beed added, date aperture at the 3 O’clock position and small seconds sub-dial at the 9 o’clock position.
The arabic numerals as well as the skeletonized black hands have been treated with luminous material and they are pretty bright at night.
And under the hood, is the in-house movement HUB 1242 based on HUB1240. This automatic flyback chronograph is full adjusted and features bi directional winder and double clutch which are visible on the dial side. This heart beats at 4 hertz using 38 jewels and gives you up to 72 hours of power reserve.
