Here is another special timepiece from a watchmaker that has been producing special watches for civil aviation purposes since the mid 1930s.
This is the limited edition IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Edition — Chinese New Year, reference number IW388107. This handsome Pilot’s watch was designed to welcome the Year of the Tiger in China in 2022. It is said that those who are born in the year of the Tiger are people who are brave, self confident, adventurers and pioneers.
Burgundy was the color of choice for this Pilot because this is the color used in China to welcome the new year and is a color that represents happiness and success.
The 41mm case is crafted in stainless steel and it has a combination of brushed and polished finish. The case comes paired with a gorgeous 20mm special burgundy calfskin strap which is secure to the wrist with an IWC stainless steel pin buckle.
Under the sapphire crystal, is a cockpit instrument inspired dial. This is one of the most iconic designs by IWC. In 1992 they introduced this Double Chronograph design. It was IWC’s first automatic movement with double chronograph and is now a hallmark of IWC’s Pilot’s Watches.
The dial has a special burgundy color that looks very stylish. With this Pilot’s watch you get 2 Sub-dials for the chronograph (12 and 9 O’clock position), a Sub-dial for the running seconds at the 6 O’clock position and a Date/Day window at the 3 O’clock position.
Under the hood is IWC automatic movement caliber 69835. This in-house movement is composed of 231 components and works at 4 hertz using 33 jewels. The caliber is adjusted in 5 positions and it includes a column wheel and vertical clutch and hacking seconds. The rotor has a design with a Tiger that makes up the upper portion of the rotor.
The timepiece is individually numbered and is limited to only 500pcs.
