IWC has managed to surprise us with the variety and number of updates to the Portugieser collection. The scope of new products is more like a complete modernization of a well-known series.
New lineup: chronographs
The most popular model in the collection is the Portugieser Chronograph, which has withstood the test of time. February 2020 saw a striking evolution of the chronograph over the past 22 years — the new version of the IW371615 is powered by the Caliber 69355 movement and has three fresh iterations.
The stunning stainless steel edition gets a stunning radial sunburst dial in rich green tone, complete with a black alligator leather strap. The second steel version, IW371616, comes with a similar dial in a burgundy tone. The collection also presents another chronograph IW371614 with a gold case combined with a beautiful radial-matte navy blue dial, complemented by a blue alligator leather strap.
Automatic movement
The popular self-winding watch with only one function — time — is being revolutionized by the all-new Portugieser Automatic 40. The smaller 40 mm chronometer now features a classic small stopwatch at 6 o’clock position and is available in three different versions. The new line is powered by caliber 82200 IWC with a 60-hour power reserve. The Swiss watchmaker has released two new designs in steel and gold.
The stainless steel IW358303 case matches perfectly with a silvered-plated dial, gold-plated numerals, hands and markers, and a black alligator leather strap. If gold accents on the dial do not appeal, you can opt for the classic model IW358304, with a toned down silver dial, decorated with blued steel numerals and hands with a blue alligator leather strap.
The radial seawater blue dial in the IW358305 version looks simply mesmerizing in a steel case. On the other hand, the solid gold model IW358306 comes with a silver-plated dial, combined with gilded appliqués on its dial for numbers and markers. For the latest edition, the brand has provided a luxurious brown alligator leather strap made by Santoni.
Watch in 42 mm case
The most symbolic of the Portugieser series is the latest stainless steel IW500714 with an incredible burgundy dial. The luxurious gold IW500713 model features a radial sunburst matte navy blue dial and a blue Santoni strap. This line uses the classic self-winding caliber 52010, which offers a whopping seven days of power reserve and a power reserve function.
Perpetual calendar
The Portugieser collection has more sophisticated editions. The Perpetual Calendar measures 42.4 mm in diameter. For the first time, this popular function is performed with the self-winding caliber 82650 and power reserve of up to 60 hours. Three different versions of this line are produced in two different metals.
The perpetual calendars in stainless steel IW344203 are smaller — 42 mm, have a silver plated dial and gold-plated markers and hands. Model in a durable red gold case IW344202QP has a silver-plated dial, combined with gold-plated numerals and a brown strap. Rounding up the trilogy is the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 42 with a gold case IW344205, a navy blue sun dial and a blue strap.
Original editions
The novelties do not end there. The catalog now includes the Portugieser Yacht Club chronograph IW39070, the Moon & Tide model IW34400, as well as the IWC Portugieser Tourbillon or Retrograde chronograph IW394005, and many other models that may be of interest to the brand’s enthusiasts.
