When it comes to the exciting world of Formula One, there are quite a few luxury watch brands that have partnerships with Formula 1 racing teams. The Red Bull Racing Team decided to go with Tag Heuer who happens to have a very rich history with Formula 1 that goes back to 1968. The partnership between Tag Heuer and Red Bull started in 2016 and will continue until 2024.
For 2022, Tag Heuer has release an updated Formula 1 Red Bull Racing Special Edition to celebrates the partnership and Max Verstappen recent World Drivers’ championship victory. This Tag is reference number CAZ101AL. This version looks bolder, more colorful and more technical than the previous generation.
This racing inspired timepiece is composed of a stainless steel case and stainless steel bracelet but is also available with blue rubber strap. The case measures 43mm in diameter and 48.5mm from lug to lug with an overall thickness of about 12mm.
The 3 link design of the stainless steel bracelet makes this timepiece very comfortable on the wrist. The bracelet is hold by screws to the lugs and the folding deployant clasp has twin trigger and a pilot extension for additional adjustment.
The fixed stainless steel bezel has a blue aluminum insert which instead of saying tachymeter, Tag labeled it “speed” to go with the theme.
Under the sapphire crystal there’s a blue Sun-ray brushed dial with red and yellow highlighting the outer chapter ring and chronograph sub-dials. The chronograph central seconds hand has also been highlighted with yellow.
The rhodium plated skeletonized hour and minute hands as well as the applied Arabic numerals have been treated with Superluminova. At night the dial is pretty bright.
This Formula one has a Quartz movement with chronograph that includes a 1/10 of a second indicator at the 6 O’clock position.
The movement also offers a date window with a white background at the 4 O’Clock position.
This tag has a solid case back with special engraving that includes the Red Bull Racing logo and checking flag motif right under it.
And Under the hood, Tag Heuer is using Ronda’s startech caliber 5040.D. This is a Swiss quartz movement which measures 28.6mm in diameter and uses 13 jewels. The movement includes chronograph, hacking seconds, screw down crown, 200 meters of water resistant and up to 54 months of battery life.
Although this is not an in house movement. It’s well made and most importantly, accurate and very reliable.
This special edition Formula 1 has been completely redesign for 2022.
