The Vacheron Constantin Historiques Cornes de Vache 1955 reference 5000H/000P-B058 is an elegant dressed chronograph that was released in 2015. This very special timepiece is based on the famous and very desirable reference 6087 from the 1950s.
The reference 6087 is a very rare Chronograph timepiece with unusual teardrops lugs produced in 1955 in very limited production; 36 pieces to be precise. This reference was Vacheron’s first water resistant chronograph.
The classic case design has been crafted in 950 platinum and measures 38.5mm in diameter (3mm larger than the 6087) and with an overall length of 47.6mm when you measure from the Cornes de Vache “cow horns” lugs. The case is also fairly thin, 10.9mm in thickness and comes paired with a dark blue alligator strap with platinum pin buckle.
Another great feature of this very special timepiece and perhaps the most welcoming by watch enthusiast, is what’s under the hood. This Vacheron is using the manual winding chronograph caliber 1142. This movement is based on Lemania 2310 but it’s fully produced in house. Vacheron has made numerous improvements and changes for increase reliability and higher level of finishes. As a result, the caliber qualifies for the Geneva Hallmark.
The movement is adjusted in 5 positions and works at 21,600 vph using 21 jewels and with a power reserve of 48 hours. Unlike the Lemania, the 1142 includes a clutch wheel, integrated jumper spring for the chronograph, a free sprung balance, engraved balance cock and a higher beat. The Lemania does 18,000 vph while the 1142 does 21,600 vph.
Under the sapphire crystal is an opaline dial that has applied white gold markers with 12 and 6 Roman numerals and white gold hands with a blue central seconds Chronograph hand that can be use for the tachymeter scale located on the outer ring of the dial.
The dial also have 2 sub-dials, 30 minute chronograph counter by the 3 O’clock position and running seconds by the 9 O’clock position.
Overall this is a gorgeous timepiece with the most stylish lugs that I have ever seen on a wrist watch.
