The Maestro GC Sport pays homage to the various tennis surfaces: hard, clay, and grass. Limited to just 200 pieces, the Clay edition is part of a trio, each reflecting a distinct tennis court type.
Central to the GC Sport series is the signature Maestro case design, originally conceived by Gerald Genta in 2006. However, in a departure from the norm, the crown now resides on the left side of the case. This strategic placement, a departure from convention, aims to enhance wearer comfort during sporting activities, particularly tennis matches, by preventing the crown from interfering with hand movements.
To accommodate the left-sided crown, the movement underwent a 180-degree rotation, necessitating intricate engineering to ensure seamless alignment, particularly with the date wheel.
One of the standout features of this timepiece is its handcrafted textured dial, reminiscent of clay tennis courts. The dial’s multidimensional finish, achieved through a meticulous process involving hammering the baseplate, applying pigment powder, and oven baking, culminates in a captivating visual effect. Oversized Arabic numerals and hour markers grace the dial, complemented by a discreet date window at 6 o’clock. In low-light conditions, Superluminova-coated hands, markers, and numerals ensure optimal legibility.
Encasing this distinctive dial is a polished grade 5 titanium case, measuring 39mm x 41.7mm and a mere 8.7mm in thickness, offering a sleek profile for an automatic timepiece. The use of full titanium construction, along with a vulcanized rubber strap, contributes to the watch’s remarkable lightness on the wrist. The strap’s textured brown rubber exudes a sporty allure, adorned with Genta’s logo pattern on the underside.
Powering the GC Sport Clay is the caliber GCA 3002, an ultra-thin movement measuring just 3.7mm thick. Featuring a gyromax balance and a distinctive gold rotor with a hexagonal pattern design. This movement delivers a 50-hour power reserve and it works at 4 hertz using 28 jewels. With a water resistance rating of 100 meters, this timepiece seamlessly blends functionality with aesthetic finesse.
